This is the moment a young woman in her pyjamas flees her apartment after using martial arts techniques and a chokehold to fight off a convicted rapist who attacked her in her bedroom and tried to rape her.
The incident happened in Barueri, part of the Greater Sao Paulo metropolitan area in southeastern Brazil, on 23rd May.
Security camera footage shows Wellington de Oliveira Santos sneaking through the reception area after climbing under a barrier unnoticed before taking a lift to the 18th floor, where his intended victim Jessica Soares lived.
Later footage shows Jessica running from her apartment corridor and banging on neighbours' doors for help as the suspect chased after her.
The 35-year-old nutritionist said she had been sleeping alone when she heard someone entering her home and walking downstairs.
Jessica said her boyfriend had left earlier that morning and had left the apartment door pulled shut but unlocked because he planned to return later and did not want to wake her.
She recalled: "I thought it was strange how careful he was being not to wake me up. When I realised it wasn't my boyfriend, I pretended to be asleep."
Jessica said the intruder covered her mouth, implied he was armed and threw her onto the bed before trying to remove her clothes.
She told local media that the attacker repeatedly ordered her to stay quiet and claimed he had been watching her for some time.
The nutritionist said she fought back using techniques she had learned through years of training in boxing, muay thai, jiu-jitsu and self-defence.
She said: "At the time, I just wanted to defend myself. I've trained in boxing and muay thai for many years and I live a very active lifestyle as a nutritionist, so I had strength and technique. I don't have that much jiu-jitsu training, but jiu-jitsu is what saved me. I've also taken self-defence classes, including lessons specifically on how to escape a rape."
Jessica said she managed to throw the attacker off the bed with a powerful hip movement before a violent struggle broke out.
The fight lasted about 13 minutes, during which she said the suspect punched her, pulled her hair, tried to suffocate her and pushed her down the stairs as she attempted to escape.
At one point, Jessica managed to trap him with her legs and place him in a chokehold, but she said he continued trying to rape her.
She said: "I was exhausted. I thought the worst was going to happen."
Jessica said she then pretended to stop resisting before kicking the suspect with all her strength and sending him crashing into a wall.
She struck him again, managed to reach the stairs and escaped into the corridor, where she screamed for help.
According to Jessica, one female neighbour immediately came to her aid before other residents emerged and helped restrain the suspect until municipal guards arrived.
Santos was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and unlawful entry.
Court documents obtained by Brazilian media showed he was on conditional release at the time of his arrest after being convicted in 2017 of rape, armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, trespassing and coercion.
He had been sentenced to 11 years and four months in prison for offences committed in 2015.
Police also seized his mobile phone and said they were investigating whether he had monitored Jessica's movements before the attack.
Jessica later left the apartment and began psychological treatment, saying she could no longer sleep without medication.
She said: "Sometimes it's fear, sometimes it's anger, sometimes it's strength. But I know I fought to survive."
