An unborn baby already dead when he was cut from his dead teenage mother's body after she was blasted with a shotgun by her husband had been brought back to life by medics.
The tragedy happened in the Baglarbasi neighbourhood of Yalova, a city in north-western Turkey at around 8pm on 20th August, after Sultan Pelit Demir and her 22-year-old husband Muhammed Demir became involved in a heated argument.
Local reports indicate the couple had a history of severe marital conflict and frequent disagreements.
The couple's two-year-old daughter was reportedly outside the home when Muhammed locked the front door after forcing the toddler out, apparently preventing her from witnessing the shooting.
Muhammed then fired three shots at Sultan with the pump-action shotgun, leaving her critically wounded.
After shooting his wife, Muhammed used the same weapon to shoot himself and suffered serious injuries.
Neighbours who heard the gunshots alerted police and emergency medical teams, who rushed to the property.
Both Sultan and Muhammed were given emergency treatment before being taken to hospitals in Yalova.
As doctors fought to save Sultan, surgeons performed an emergency Caesarean section to deliver her eight-month-old baby boy.
The baby's heart had initially stopped when he was left without oxygen inside the womb following the shooting, but medical teams managed to revive him with CPR before placing him in an incubator.
The newborn was then transferred to a specialist medical facility in neighbouring Bursa, where he was reported to be in a stable condition but still fighting for his life.
Sultan died despite doctors' efforts to save her.
Muhammed was initially reported to be in a critical condition, but later succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries and died in intensive care.
Police launched an investigation into the family tragedy, including the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting.
