This footage shows police leading away a passenger caught with more than 30 kilogrammes of cocaine in his suitcases.

The footage was released by Spain's National Police on 24th August and shows the arrest at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport, in the Spanish region of Catalonia.

The video shows officers escorting the man through the terminal before displaying the packages recovered from his bags.

He had landed on a flight from Mexico City, with the National Police announcing the arrest on Monday, 24th August.

The route is one of those Spanish police classify as a hot flight, singled out for extra scrutiny because criminal networks use passengers on them to move drugs into Europe.

Officers were checking travellers one by one when the man drew their attention by appearing nervous and hesitant and giving inconsistent answers.

He was taken to the customs facilities of the Spanish tax agency, where a detailed search of his belongings was carried out.

Inside his two suitcases, officers found 26 slabs of a whitish, compact substance which tested positive for cocaine.

The haul weighed 31.093 kilogrammes (68.5 lbs) in total and was described by officers as being of high purity.

He was arrested on suspicion of an offence against public health relating to drug trafficking, and the cocaine was seized.

He was brought before a judge, who ordered that he be held on remand while the case proceeds.

The National Police used the case to remind travellers never to check baggage in another person's name and to keep their cases in sight at all times.
